These famous celebrities talk about their drug addiction and how they over came the dreadful causes of drugs. Drinking and drugs caused a huge impact on these celebrities life and made enormous changes in their career. Well! most of them got out of this, while few still struggle to get out of it.
It’s sad most of these celebrities who were addicted to drugs are our favorite movie stars, singers and artists.
Once an adorable child star, Lindsay Lohan had lost control of her life. Which included alcohol abuse, cocaine, rehab visits and jail time as well. 2007 was a disastrous year for this young star as she was once convicted for use of cocaine, twice for drunken driving, three trips to the rehab and 84 mins of jail time. Her drugs of choice were “pot, obviously, and Ecstasy “says the star. She also mentions, “she liked Ecstasy better than the others.” to a reporter Piers Morgan for London’s Daily Mail newspaper.
She posted a tweet on Twitter in September 2010 just before entering the Betty Ford Clinic for three months: “Substance abuse is a disease, which unfortunately doesn’t go away over night. I am working hard to overcome it and am taking positive steps.”
It is shocking how her first rehab visit was not because of drugs or alcohol but to help her deal with the trauma she experienced making a movie “I Know Who Killed Me” in January 2007. She says, “I was having really bad nightmares, and the movie was pretty traumatizing”. “So I stayed in a facility so I could get some sleep and talk about it with someone the next day, because it was overwhelming. But I would leave every day and just sleep there at night. I liked that. It was kind of like having my own live-in therapist, because I was having crazy nightmares.
She slowed down on her drinking on the advice of an actor, Heath Ledger, who told her to give it up for a year because he’d just done that, and so she did, and it wasn’t a problem for her, she says.
The former child star Macaulay Culkin has never admitted to using drugs. Though he was been pictured on several occasions looking worryingly thin and untidy. In 2004, Home Alone star was arrested for Xanax and marijuana possession, due to a rough time of his life.
In 2013, it was widely reported that he was said to be close to death and he was battling various drug addictions.
But as of now the Home Alone star looks far healthier and fit. The actor’s healthy appearance will provide reassurance to his fans after he was said to be close to death as he allegedly battled a devastating heroin addiction.
Many will remember the epic breakdown of singer Britney Spears in the year 2007. Britney Spears’ former bodyguard, flaming that she was once hooked on prescription drugs, downing up to 30 a day, and was in such a grip of addiction she shaved her head to beat a drugs test.
After a series of events Britney was hospitalized and was placed under a court ordered conservator. The judges say her manager Sam Lutfi advised Britney about “the importance of getting clean.” Britney’s family claims Sam was actually the one who fueled her with drugs.
According to the judges, Britney asked Sam to manage her, and he accepted with 2 conditions — she’d let him assemble a team, and she’d stop abusing drugs. He also insisted on the right to use drug sniffing dogs to make sure she stayed clean.
The judges say despite Britney’s promises, she continued to abuse drugs and it got so dire at some point Britney was seen sleeping in a parking lot and the very same day she also lost custody of her 2 children.
After Britney’s dad, Jamie, won a conservatorship. She stabilized and has become extremely productive in her career and she’s became an attentive and caring parent.
It is shocking to know that Hollywood’s Oscar-winning actress Angelina Jolie was of severe heroin addiction.
Though she was quite open about her drug addiction in her earlier days, a 16 minutes video that emerged few years back which was leaked by the National Enquirer, showed Angelina pretty high on heroin showing the sheer scale of her addiction, which shocked her fans.
“I went through heavier, darker times and I survived them. I didn’t die young,” Jolie said during a 60 Minutes profile in November 2011. “So I am very lucky. There are other artists and people that didn’t survive certain things … people can imagine that I did the most dangerous, and I did the worst…for many reasons, I shouldn’t be here,” says Jolie. “You just…too many times where you came close to too many dangerous things, too many chances taken too, too far.”
Though the famous actress of all time went through some pretty dark times in her young age. She fortunately managed to get through these addiction and is doing some great work both on and off the screen.
Robert Downey Jr
The most disturbing incident of Downey involves him wandering around the neighbor’s house and missing court ordered drug tests which caused him a 3 year prison stint in the year 1999. While, he only served one year in California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility and State Prison. In 2001, Downey was found bare foot, wandering in Culver City, California and was arrested of being suspicion of under influence of drugs. This incident got him fired from the famous TV show “Ally McBeal” and few other films, then he was sent to rehab instead of a prison.
Heroin, coke, crack and name a drug, he has done it all. After the entire prison scene, Downey’s wife Susan Downey told Harper’s Bazaar that he quit drugs for good in 2003 after she gave him an ultimatum. According to a Daily Mail article in 2013 , the actor credits a combination of 12-step programs, yoga, meditation and therapy after which he’s managed to keep clean and make a massive recovery starring in some major box office hits including Iron Man and Tropic Thunder.
One of the most successful actor of Hollywood Brad Pitt, was a victim of drug abuse as well.
In the year 2011, he told Parade magazine, that he spent much of the 90’s ‘sitting on a couch, holding a joint, hiding out.’ He went on to blame his marriage with Jennifer Aniston that led to him not reaching his potential. But Also, recently he was seen at the Allied premier looking gaunt, right after his divorce with Angelina Jolie which grabbed the attention of media.
In a recent interview with GQ, Brad Pitt announced that he had quit drinking and was now living a sober life.
He recovered out loud. “Addiction and substance use thrive in the dark – by opening up, and sharing our stories, we not only help other people by erasing the stigma of addiction. We also help ourselves by living our recovery without shame and by treating it like what it is, part of us and part of our lives” says Pitt. For me this period has really been about looking at my weaknesses and failures and owning my side of the street” “For me every misstep has been a step toward epiphany, understanding, some kind of joy. Yeah, the avoidance of pain is a real mistake. It’s the real missing out on life. It’s those very things that shape us, those very things that offer growth, that make the world a better place, oddly enough, ironically. That make us better.”
The young famous artist Ed Sheean recently opened up about his substance abuse and how it stopped his music career for a while. “I didn’t really notice it was happening,” Sheeran said of his drug addiction on The Jonathon Ross Show. “It just started gradually happening, and then some people took me to one side and were like, ‘Calm yourself down.’ It’s all fun to begin with, it all starts off as a party, and then you’re doing it on your own and it’s not. So, that was a wake-up call and taking a year off.”
After a motor cycle accident, he didn’t even realize he had broken arms. “The thing is, when it happened, I got up and was like, ‘That hurt’ and then cycled to the pub,” Sheeran said. “Went home, went to sleep and then woke up at five o’clock in the morning in a lot of pain. And then went to the hospital.” After which he took the step to deal with his temptation and is now clean.
Eminem told MTV in 2013 that his addiction to drugs was at its worst in 2005, “The doctors told me I’d done the equivalent of four bags of heroin … Had I got to the hospital about two hours later, I would have died. My organs were shutting down. My liver, kidneys, everything. They were gonna have to put me on dialysis. They didn’t think I was gonna make it. My bottom was gonna be death.” said Eminem.
In an interview with Men’s Journal the star said, It all started when he took painkillers that caused him so much stomach trouble, he had to eat tons of food, often unhealthy , to soothe the pain. The coating on the Vicodin and the Valium I’d been taking for years leaves a hole in your stomach, so to avoid a stomachache, I was constantly eating,” he said.
It was so difficult that he could not sleep without these drugs. He knew he wanted an outlet, So he turned to exercise . Eminem told the magazine, “It gave me a natural endorphin high, but it also helped me sleep, so it was perfect,” and “It’s easy to understand how people replace addiction with exercise”. After which the rapper gave up on drugs and started running 17 miles a day.
The famous star known for his character as Chandler Bing in FRIENDS, was addicted to his prescription drugs Vicodin , prescribed by the physician, after a skinning accident in 1997. ” I felt better than I ever felt in my entire life. I had a big problem with pills and alcohol, and I couldn’t stop. Eventually things got so bad that I couldn’t hide it, and then everybody knew.” says the star.
In the latest issue of People, Perry covers the magazine and opens up about his struggles during the hit show’s 10 year run. He tells, he was sent to rehab twice during his rise to fame. The actor said he was “never high at work,” just “painfully hungover”. “I was a hopelessly narcissistic guy, and I only thought about myself, and then that just shifted, and when that happened, I got some true happiness and comfort in my life”. Luckily he is now sober and he is an advocate for nonviolent drug offenders to be rehabilitated through treatment as opposed to going to jail.
He also made his Malibu mansion into a sober home for men called Perry House. He also told the magazine that helping people with their addictions is the “thing I like the most about me.”
In a interview, December 1990, Drew said “When I was 10-years-old, I was sitting in a room with a group of young adults who were smoking pot“, “I wanted to try some. Eventually that got boring, and my addict mind told me, Well, if smoking pot is cute, it’ll also be cute to get the heavier stuff like cocaine. It was gradual. What I did kept getting worse and worse, and I didn’t care what anybody else thought.”
Luckily for Drew, she found the help she needed and now completely out of substance abuse.
